Lore
What are Ravorbis?
Ravorbis are a species of spirit-like beings native to Varelia. Unlike Beastlings, they rely on outside sources of magic to live and grow. They gather this magic within an orb that serves as the core of their being. This core is the first part of a Ravorbis coming into existence. Once it gathers enough surrounding magic, it will form a small spirit around the orb. At this stage it is not much more than a head, capable of consuming more magic. This initial form is referred to as the spirit orb. An orb can be of many different colors, which is influenced by the emotions behind the magic their maker consumed. These orb colors decide what subtype a Ravorbis belongs to. They are, for the most part, solitary creatures.
Forming a shell
If a Ravorbis consumes enough magic, they will eventually use it to form themselves a body, a shell. A shell takes the form of a mostly humanoid body, but will have at least one tail-head that looks like the spirit orb form protrude from it, as well as have their orb embedded somewhere on their body. Sometimes, the spirit head will also have it. The shell can display features present in the head, such as spikes or fins, but they are kept small on the body. After all, it serves to both blend in with their surrounding species, and to attract potential prey - beings that hold magic.
Most often, this will be Beastlings, whose magic makes the perfect treat for a Ravorbis, although they generally do not stop there. A Ravorbis can be quite greedy, and as such they are viewed as a danger amongst Beastling and often hunted down. The shell, being a creation of magic, is not made of flesh and blood. It is, in fact, empty. A Ravorbis cannot bleed or reproduce, but this also means they can shape their shell to their will. Often times this means their chosen looks are impacted by the area they grew up in.
If a Ravorbis loses too much magic, they will first start losing heads, and might even revert back to the spirit orb form. If they run out, they fade from existence. On the other hand, a Ravorbis with a lot of magic stored up can form as many heads as they want, in different forms/sizes, but will generally not form more than 10. Losing a head in a fight will not harm them other than losing that bit of magic, as they can regenerate once more magic is consumed.
Fun fact: many Ravorbis remain mostly unclothed. This is caused by them being rather solitary and unaccostumed to other cultures. They do not display genitalia or a sex by default, but they do imitate bare male chests - because unlike genitalia, they sometimes see them on others running around. It is rumoured, however, that they can mimic these parts as well if they desire to.
Of Strange Orbs
If Ravorbis cannot reproduce, how are there more of them? We will learn with time how this happens, and why it does.
Features
A common Ravorbis has the following features:
Spirit orb:
- An orb of one of the subtype colors
- One or multiple appendages resembling a head (you are very free in its design, but if you are unsure, read the elemental note below and/or ask!)
- The head can be wearing armor or a headress
Shell:
- A humanoid body with an orb embedded into it somewhere
- Can have some body details that match their heads, including but not limited to:
- spikes
- some fuzz/feather on the legs (not fully furred though!)
- plating on the legs
- Can have any skin tone / markings
- long ears at the side of their head. Not elf ears, please refer to the refernces below!
- The lower part of the ear's edge can have varying forms (eg. feathered out, tattered, curled) but within reason. The base shape and location at the side of the head must stay the same.
- at least one tail-head that matches their spirit orb form (but can have multiple, if so, they should all look the same or like tiny baby versions of the same)
- their tell-tale feet with 3 holes (yes, holes. Their shell is empty after all, only magic inside)
- up to 3 pairs of horns of any type/form. Unicorn is fine too.
- Can have their orb embedded on multiple locations in shell form, but must always have the same color/shape as the "real" orb.
Some notes on elemental traits
Elemental traits work on Ravorbis like on any other species. However, due to their head designs being rather free, I want to clear something up:
Without elemental traits, you can...
- Design a head with feathers/scales/fur/smooth skin (but no full on wings or fins!)
- Give the heads headresses or armor
You need an elemental trait for...
- Additional limbs on heads/the body, such as all the wing traits or fins
- All the material traits / aura traits
Subtypes
Ravorbis come in different subtypes. Click through the tabs below to learn more about them!Traits
These traits can be on top of any base MYO to create even more fun designs! Traits may be locked to a species, a subtype or they may work on any character.Mismatched Heads (Uncommon) Masterlist Examples
Sometimes, a Ravorbis can manifest up to 3 different types of heads. How curious.
NOTE: A small/baby/reduced version of their head does not need this trait, as it counts as the same head.
Downsized Heads (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Occassionally, a head manifests to be very small, lacking a neck part. These types of heads sprout directly from the Ravorbis' body.
Irregular Orb (Rare) Masterlist Examples
An orb doesn't always need to be round, even though the name may be misleading. Some Ravorbis have orbs with other simple shapes, although it is rare.
NOTE: Simple shapes must stay simple, they included but are not limited to: hearts, stars, diamonds, squares etc.
Vicious Maws (Extraordinary) Masterlist Examples
There are Ravorbis with a particularly strong hunger for magic. It is said they have developed additional maws all over their body, not just on their heads, so that they may feed more.
NOTE: These additionall mouthes/maws can be on any part of their body, including adding more on the heads.
Overflow (Unattainable) Masterlist Examples
Some Ravorbis seem to be overflowing with orbs, visible by the orbs floating all around them, connected by magic. Not much is known about this phenomenom.
Floral (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Plant like growths on their bodies and a very in depth relationship with nature, these beings are quite the sight. This can range from sprouting flowers to having whole limbs made off of wood or plant matter. These parts may be disconnected or partly floating thanks to magical spells. There may also be floating flowers or petals around them.
NOTE: This trait can turn a characters existing limbs, or part of one, into a different material. This should never affect more than 50% of the characters main body (the main body consisting of head, torso, arms and legs). Limbs should roughly keep their original shape (wings must still be recognizable as wings, tails as tails, etc).
On Fire (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Thunderstruck (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Smoke Cloaked (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Goopy (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Some of the features of these individuals began to melt, or to turn into a type of wax or goo. Affected features may be deformed/have a pattern. It can affect parts such as horns & the body itself. This trait is not painful to the affected.
Mechanical (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Mechanical limbs and addons or decorations of all kinds, crafted and built by professionals for those who are more prone to science than magic. These can be made from any type of metal, with functioning joints. They cannot be translucent. These parts may also be disconnected or partly floating thanks to technology. The features of each species must be retained.
IMPORTANT: You don't need this trait to create prosthetics for your character. Mechanical only refers to highly sought after and technologically advanced robotic limbs that integrate with the body in a way that there is no notable difference between it and a regular limb, think fullmetal alchemist!
Zombiefied (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Spectral (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Some parts of these creatures seem to be dissolving into a ghostly, spectral mass. The body part must visibly turn into spectral matter/fizzle out. These parts may be disconnected or partly floating. Spectral whisps may also float around the character.
Translucent (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Part of these individuals body have mysteriously turned translucent. This allows for any sort of translucent limbs, which may have visible bones or simply appear empty. Gore/Organs are not allowed!
Crystallized (Rare) Masterlist Examples
It's not quite clear how, but some individuals have developed crystallized features. This may affect horns/hooves/claws, or a whole limb. These parts may be disconnected or partly floating thanks to magical spells. It may also cause an icy / snowflake aura (as those are ice crystals) around the character, or just floating earthen crystals.
Plushified (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Parts of these beings have turned into plush. How curious. This allows for the addition of plush patches, stitches or plush limbs made of fabric to a character. It also allows for yarn in place of strands of hair!
Bioluminiscent (Rare) Masterlist Examples
It's not quite clear how, but some individuals have developed glowing, bioluminicent body parts or markings. This may affect horns/hooves/claws, markings or scales.
NOTE: This trait only cannot fully replace a limb with different glowing material.
IMPORTANT: This trait is not needed for species that naturally glow such as Arma Caeli. You may add glow to things that naturally glow without needing this trait.
Earthen (Rare) Masterlist Examples
These creatures have body parts made out of stone, clay or earth. These parts may be disconnected or partly floating thanks to magical spells. It can also simply cause floating stones or pieces around the character.
Watery (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Water magic seems to affect bits of these characters body, turning them liquid. These parts may be disconnected or partly floating ripples of water. There may also be bubbles floating around the character.
Coral Growth (Rare) Masterlist Examples
Some beings have, wether on purpose or just because it happened, colorful coral growing on them!
NOTE: This trait allows coral to grow on the body of a character, but does not turn whole limbs into coral.

These individuals shine so bright that they emanate sparkles or stars that surround them like an aura. The sparkles can be any shape or color.
NOTE: This trait only affects the characters surroundings, and cannot turn a limb into a different material!

Transformations
Some species are capable of transforming and shifting between different forms.Spirit Orb Masterlist Examples
This core is the first part of a Ravorbis coming into existence. Once it gathers enough surrounding magic, it will form a small spirit around the orb. At this stage it is not much more than a head, capable of consuming more magic. This initial form is referred to as the spirit orb.
(Character on the example belongs to Katarsys)
Shell Masterlist Examples
If a Ravorbis consumes enough magic, they will eventually use it to form themselves a body, a shell. A shell takes the form of a mostly humanoid body, but will have at least one tail-head that looks like the spirit orb form protrude from it, as well as have their orb embedded somewhere on their body.
