Winter Wonders
Melyonen woke up feeling an unusual cold in the air that straight up sent a shiver down the spine. It was rather unpleasant but the freshness was different than normally. She rubbed her sleepy eyes then shuffled over to the frosted window, and gasped at the amazing transformation the landscape had taken.
Everything outside was covered in a very thick shimmering white snow. Her little garden that was usually bursting with vibrant leafy greens and colorful apples was now laying under a soft layer of frost. The fence posts were draped in white coats, the small branches of the trees were adorning with delicate icicles and even the path leading to her front door was looking straight up from a storybook with the winter’s touch.
Her heart leaped with childish excitement as she flung open the door, stepping into the wintry wonderland in her beloved garden boots and a thickly wrapped scarf around her neck for some warmth. The breezes were sharp and cold but also invigorating. Instead of returning back inside, she held out her hands and watched in awe the tiny snowflakes drifting gently onto her palms. They all melted almost immediately from her body warmth but were leaving a soft chill behind. The thrill of witnessing their delicate beauty so close made her feel delighted and giggly.
“So this is snow!” she exclaimed to herself, her voice laced with pure joy as she spun around. Her boots were crunching against the frosted ground as she was stepping to observe more changes.
Rushing to her garden, she eagerly brushed the powdered snow off the tops of her plantations, checking to see how they fared under it. They looked peaceful, as if they were sleeping soundly beneath the snow blanket. Of course, at this time of the year, plants went into hibernation as the cold was stopping their growth. With a determined nod, she promised to check on them later. Right now, she has some very important winter activities to try !
Melyonen bent down and scooped up a handful of snow, marveling at the softness and the way it sparkled under the sunlight. It looked like a tiny star bundle ! She packed it together, shaping her very first snowball despite the cold making her hands feel numb. She then threw it at a nearby tree with a triumphant cheer then rang through the quiet area. The snowball burst on the impact, sending fluffy bits flying in different directions. It made her feel quite satisfied.
Next, she got to work building a snowman, rolling fresh powder into lumpy spheres and carefully stacking them to create a somewhat ressembling shape of a Beastling. It ended up a little crooked and yet, she beamed proudly as she added a few stones, a carrot and some other little details onto it. It was imperfect but he seemed like having a good personality !
Not long after, she found herself lying on her back, sweeping her arms and legs through the snow on the ground to make a wobbly snow angel. Her tails made it a bit complicated and the final shape was rather strange. The cold seeped through the coat and was making her shiver, she did not care. It was a moment of pure joy and innocence; a rare view to celebrate.
As the sky began to turn golden with the sun setting down and painting the lands in different warm colors hues; Melyonen felt flushed and exhilarated. Her cheeks were rosy, hair was dusted with frost and her fingers pleasantly numb yet brimming with happiness. She took one last look at her garden, the pristine shimmering under the fading light, and smiled wide.
With the renewed excitement bubbling inside her mind, she thought about all the adventures awaiting her tomorrow. Maybe she would try sledding down the gentle hill at the edge of her yard, maybe figuring out how to make something warm with the snow, like a frosty treat or a cozy drink. Speaking of hot drinks, she really needed a hot chocolate at this moment. Heading inside, she curled up with a steaming cup of it and cherished the memory of this first snow of the year; a day woven into her heart like the threads of a cozy scarf.
