Let's go to the beach beach

Mostly due to her hobbies and profession keeping her mainly indoors doing research, Amanda usually isn’t too fond of getting outside and active. It’s not that she doesn’t enjoy nature or the outdoors, it’s mainly that all of the physical effort it takes to do these things is… well, too much effort.

Because of this, whenever she’s invited out to do anything other than field work, she usually opts to do a more relaxing option. For example, while her friends had invited her out for some beach volleyball, she opted instead just to referee the match instead of participate herself - she much prefers to keep a distance and let everyone else play. She doesn’t want anyone to get disappointed they lost while having her on their team.

Her friends had quite a bit of fun during it, but they kept asking her if she wanted to play too, or if she felt left out, which made her feel awkward. She didn’t— she felt just fine interacting in this way!

After the game was done, her friends wanted to relax, by… getting into the water. Instead of joining them, she just shook her head, laid out a towel, and sunbathed a little.

She liked watching from the sidelines like this— not only did she get some much-needed sun and fresh air, she was still interacting with her friends— and wasn’t getting splashed in the process.

“Amanda! Get over here, the water’s great!”

Well…

Maybe… a little bit wouldn’t hurt. Just for a few minutes. She was going to do some research in some marshlands soon, anyways… it would be good to get used to a bit of water before then.

She smiled, shaking her head a little as she got up, walking over to join her friends by wading a little into the waves.
