"How did I come to adopt Kieran? Well..."
There was a sound outside the young dragon's home. It was late in Arkusterra, but Kairos often worked late into the night in the forge. Under the guise of retrieving more wood, he steps outside to investigate, lantern in hand. A flash of orange darts out of sight, conveniently towards where Kairos had to go anyway.
Approaching the wood pile, the source of the noise finally came into view. Why was there a small human outside of his home? Why was there any human out so late in Arkusterra? All thoughts that ran through his head til he noticed the small human, the...child, was crying. Well, truly first he noticed the striking golden eyes that seemed to glow back at him in the darkness.
The pieces of what was in front of him began to fall into place in Kairos' mind, but he was also aware of how humans felt of dragons, so instead of speaking, he silently goes about gathering the materials he needs, feeling the boy's eyes follow him.
Kairos takes much longer then he needs to, to gather the wood. Once the task was finished, the dragon turns back towards his house, pausing just for a moment, "It grows cold here at night, you should come inside." His voice is deep but gentle, and it seems something in the interaction had earned the dragon the boy's trust, as he slowly gets up from the stones, holding onto Kairos' tail as they go inside.
"He did not speak for ages after I took him in, but overtime he grew more comfortable. What happened to him that night before I found him? I do not know, and I will not ask. Kieran will share that should he ever feel comfortable to. I cannot imagine what things he could have gone through, to make him less afraid of a dragon then whatever awaited him at home."
